Sylvia Memorial
These are videos from the Sylvia Jean Edmundson memorial on 8/29/26
On a Bus to St. Cloud
This is an iPhone recording by our daughter Jejelle (who can be heard at a couple of points) during a visit to Big Bear in 2021. We were not at the top of our game as we hadn’t had a gig or really practiced much at that time (due to the pandemic), so this is really an impromptu casual living room performance by Ripplin’ Waters of “On a Bus to St. Cloud.” This was played on the TV at the memorial.
You’re Something Special to Me
This is a song from George Strait written by David Anthony. Brian sang this song to Sylvia several times when she was in the ICU. The backing recording is a fairly lo-fi tape from sometime during Ripplin’ Waters 10 1/2 years at the Sugarloafer. Brian’s voice was removed from the original recording to allow him to sing with the original accompaniment, with Brian on guitar, Sylvia on keyboard and keyboard bass, and Roland (Roland TR707 drum machine) on drums. (The recording started late because our daughter forgot to start! lol)
Sunshine and You
Brian wrote this song for Sylvia in the mid to late 70’s. To allow Brian to sing with a backing track, his voice was removed, leaving the other instruments. This was recorded outside of the Fawnskin Moose Lodge at an anniversary party for the lodge administrator and his wife. In addition to Brian on guitar and vocals, and Sylvia on keyboard and keyboard bass, we had Al Bruno on lead guitar (12 time Academy of Country Music best guitarist winner) and Bobby Furgo on fiddle (from Palm Springs and a member of Leonard Cohen’s band as well as a member of Grant Lee Buffalo). Our illustrious drummer was Roland (our Roland TR707 drum machine – sorry).
I Picked A Winner
The last song at the the memorial was the second single from Ripplin’ Waters, co-written by Brian and Sylvia. This is a studio recording with Al Bruno on guitar and bass, and Rhio Hersch on drums. Brian’s voice was removed from the backing track so that he could sing a final duet with Sylvia.
